Advocacy & Lobbying Project

Over the past few years CWS-P/A has supported a number of advocacy initiatives, and has tried to address issues of peace, conflict, development and gender in a more systematic way. Partner organisations are assisted in their efforts to find effective ways to contribute to building an environment conducive for development work.

To this end CWS-P/A conducted two national workshops on Advocacy and Lobbying, and has undertaken the following projects up to December 2007:

Advocacy and lobbying on the medico-legal response to sexual violence against women.
An advocacy and lobbying campaign was launched in light of research findings to sensitise and influence the policies and services pertaining to the role of medico-legal system in the country.

Advocacy and lobbying to utilise 20% of ferries tax/auction for flood emergency relief fund in flood prone union councils of Jhang district.
Communities living in hundreds of villages along the bank of the Jhelum and Chenab Rivers, both upstream and downstream of the Trimmu headwork are physically, socially and economically isolated, vulnerable to flood disasters and survive in a fragile, hostile and resource-poor environment. The campaign is empowered communities to have a say in government flood management plans.

Advocacy and lobbying for Basic Health Unit in Nankana Sahib
Maternal mortality is a serious concern in Pakistan. In Nankana Sahib, the situation of health services is dire; in a radius of 6 to 8 kilometres there is only one Basic Health Unit (BHU) with no medical staff. The focus of this campaign was to activate this existing BHU and conduct health awareness sessions with the community.
