Disaster Response Programme:

DRP responds to the myriad needs that emerge throughout the ‘pre’ and ‘post’ phases of disasters. We seek to strengthen communities’ coping mechanisms and prepare them for effective disaster management. We also manage response and recovery efforts following any disastrous incident. In addition, we develop an active network comprising of NGOs, donor organisations, government agencies and media professionals to encourage coordination in disaster related activities. Staff members and partners are trained in Sphere minimum standards for humanitarian response, and Sphere standards are also followed in the selection of relief items. Long term rehabilitation projects that lead to the revival of livelihoods and infrastructure are also executed under this programme.

Pre Disaster Phase

In the pre–phase, communities are trained to handle emergency situations. The objective is to enhance and strengthen the indigenous coping mechanisms of the people. Medical kits and printed information are distributed to community members, and awareness about environmental degradation is also carried out to reduce natural disaster risks.

Post Disaster Phase

Immediate response, relief, and then recovery constitute the activities of the post-disaster phase. DRP assures prompt and appropriate assistance to affected communities during and immediately after disasters. It also supports the community in rapid and sustained rehabilitation for the period following an emergency.
